2004 York Bike Rally
The weekend was absolutely fabulous.  The weather was spectacular.  You couldn't ask for better riding weather.  It had been so long that I forgot what it felt like to ride without a helmet.  I know some of you are saying that it's not too smart to ride that way but I loved it.  If I had hair it would have been even better.  On Thursday night we went to the hotel bar, I think the name of it was "Baboo's Sport Bar" or something like that and met Al, Caye, Paul & Kathie.  Their room was on the floor above ours so we ended up having beers with them on the balcony.  It was great to hear stories about Pittsburgh, where I grew up near, and laughing about everything under the sun.  On Friday, Tom and I went on the Dealer Run.  At the first stop we met another group from the Pittsburgh area which included Rich, Sharon and Bob.  I'm sorry I don't remember everybody else's names.  That night we hung out with them and ended up on the balcony, once again, with Al,Caye, Paul and Kathie.  Saturday we went on the Poker Run and again had a great time.  The Fairgrounds, where the vendors were, was probably the only disappointing part of the weekend.  There weren't any of the major vendors there, which must mean that it was a Harley Davidson sponsored event, so there wasn't much to see.  But, Mickey, I did get to meet Kendall Johnson.  He was set up with some of his custom choppers and I can see why he is so popular.  I went up to meet him and we spent a few minutes talking as if he knew me personally.  He should have won that Biker Build-off competition.
On Tuesday, Sept 21st, Tom called and said "Do you want to leave on Thursday after work instead of Friday morning?"  Of course I said "YES".  So we left Thursday at noon instead.  We could not wait to get on our way to York PA.  We were both fed up with life.  I was tired of my job and tired of the pain that I was going thru, and Tom was a little frustrated about an upcoming wedding, which he was going to have to pay for instead of the person who should have been forking out the dough. Waaaaaaaah!!!!  So, we were on our way to a memorable weekend full of riding our bikes, meeting a few new friends.
The trip up was uneventful, except for the fact that Tom almost got in a collision.  This may not sound funny but when you consider that the other vehicle was a horse & buggy- you can probably understand my laughter.  We were going through Amish territory and we came to an interstection where we were going straight and the horse and buggy, in the opposite lane, was going to turn left.  The light turned green and we started moving forward.  The horse decided that it was a good time to start his left turn and reered up on it's hind legs and tried to step on Tom just as I have stepped on many insects.  The front hooves missed Tom by only a couple feet.  To this day Tom still can't understand why I was laughing my ass off.  You would think that he would understand since he still thinks it's funny to reserve a non-handicap accessible hotel room when he knows that he will be rooming with an amputee and then the amputee falls onto the toilet while getting out of the shower.
Well, like all good things, the weekend had to end.  But I had a great time with a great friend (yes Tom, that is you).  And we met some great people who I hope to continue to talk to and ride with whenever we are close enough to each other.  I am looking forward to doing it all over again next year.  As a matter of fact, We've already made our reservations at Baboo's Hotel and Sports Pub.  Enjoy the pics.  Thanks Tom!
